Migraines Hemiplegic

When talking about a hemiplegic migraine, one must bear in mind the concept of a regular migraine. For starters, a migraine is a neurological disorder which can be passed on genetically from parent to children. Furthermore, the term migraine means that the pain is only half of the head constituting a migraine as a unilateral headache. As far as the hemiplegic migraine goes, this is a rare form of the migraine and can be further separated into two classifications. These two classifications are familial and sporadic.

The hemiplegic migraine is a vascular disease which starts in early childhood and ends abruptly in early adulthood making this particular migraine specific to childhood. The causes of these hemiplegic migraines have been attributed to strokes as well as epilepsy.

The concept of these hemiplegic being familial is basic in form and states that it is genetically passed on from parents to child. The sporadic form however, is not a genetic form but rather occurs sporadically through genetic mutations of the migraine sufferer. These are considered to be one of the worst and most complex of the possible migraine varieties in which the sufferer will endure the aura associated with the hemiplegic migraine for a period of several days or even weeks. Furthermore, the symptoms of the hemiplegic migraine are a fever and even paralysis of half of the body which gives this migraine its name of hemiplegic.

The other symptoms of the hemiplegic migraine are that of meningitis and even impaired consciousness which can vary from rare occurrences of lost consciousness to a full on coma.

Just like any other migraine, the sufferers of a hemiplegic migraine really have no options since the amount of variables associated with migraines can be too great to remedy them all. The only good news for sufferers of hemiplegic migraines is that they stop in adulthood. Although this is also bad news at the same time since the effects of the hemiplegic migraine can interfere with the proper development of the mind and body as a result of the consciousness issues and the pain associated with the hemiplegic migraines.

It is important that, if you or your children suffer from hemiplegic migraines, you consult a physician to ascertain the prognosis of the hemiplegic migraine and the possible treatment options that may be available to treat and or prevent any future outbreaks.
