For many eons, wrinkles have been the sign of wisdom. As we age, things like muscle reaction time decrease while at the same time our knowledge of the world around us increases. The number one sign of aging is of course wrinkles and therefore for the longest time, wrinkles have signified that one was older and wiser. A lot has changed over time though, most people nowadays do not want these wrinkles, and they would prefer to look like they are in their twenties even if they are in their eighties.
Thanks to the advancement of science and the clearer understanding of chemicals and their effects on our bodies, many companies have been able to produce products to help reduce the appearance of these lines. The unfortunate truth though, is that a vast majority of these products do not work, and the ones that do are often very expensive.
There are other affects associated with aging and wrinkles such as the fact that the wrinkles themselves are in fact loose sagging skin that “folds” over the tendons and connective tissue that holds the skin to the face.
There are two different types of wrinkles and both are caused by separate issues. Firstly, you have the fine lines, these fine lines occur at the edges of our facial features for example at the nose, mouth and eyes. These fine lines are a lot simpler to repair for the simple fact that they are not in any way related to a wrinkle. Fine lines are simply tears in the layers of the skin. Our skin is not a single layer, but many layers of tissue stacked on top of each other. Some of these layers become torn while others stay intact. When this partial tearing of the skin happens you end up with fine lines if it is on the face or stretch marks if it is found anywhere else on the body. It is the chemical known as collagen which is supposed to keep our skin healthy and in the event that we are not producing enough, fine lines form. Some times a collagen supplement can actually reverse the effects of these fine lines.
Wrinkles on the other hand are as a result of the skin stretching and losing its natural elasticity. When this happens it becomes loose and sags over certain points along the skin which are populated by tendons and connective tissue. This is what forms the wrinkles. It is possible to have fine lines without any wrinkles because fine lines can occur at almost any age whereas wrinkles occur at older ages once the skin has become aged and loses its natural elasticity.
Obviously all of the above techniques to remove wrinkles involve invasive action – either introducing harmful chemicals into your body or undergoing unpleasant and uncomfortable treatments – and are also costly. The effects of these treatments will only last for a limited amount of time before the treatment has to be renewed again at further discomfort and cost.
